RICHARD OSHEA CONSULTANCY
Get Your Income Tax Return Right
Filing an Income Tax Return can be confusing, especially when you have income from more than one source.
For example, you may have self-employed income, rental income, dividends, foreign income, investments or other taxable income alongside your regular salary.
We review your income, expenses, tax credits and available reliefs, then help you complete the correct tax return and meet your Revenue obligations.
UNDERSTANDING INCOME TAX
What Is an Income Tax Return?
An Income Tax Return tells Revenue about your income, expenses, tax credits and other information needed to calculate your tax liability.
If you are self-employed or registered for Income Tax self-assessment, you generally file a Form 11 through Revenue Online Service (ROS).
If you are a PAYE taxpayer with certain additional income, you may instead use Form 12 through Revenue’s myAccount service, depending on your circumstances.

NEED TO KNOW
Frequently asked questions
Clear answers to common questions from business owners considering this service.
You may need to file an Income Tax Return if you are self-employed or have income that is not fully taxed through PAYE.
For example, this can include rental income, investment income, foreign income or other non-PAYE income.
Form 11 is the Income Tax Return used by people who are registered for Income Tax self-assessment.
You generally complete and submit Form 11 through Revenue Online Service (ROS).
Form 12 is an Income Tax Return for PAYE taxpayers who need to report certain additional income or claim tax credits and reliefs.
Revenue allows eligible PAYE taxpayers to complete their return through myAccount. (revenue.ie)
You must register for self-assessment if you are self-employed or if your taxable non-PAYE income exceeds €5,000 or your gross non-PAYE income exceeds €30,000.
If your non-PAYE income is below these limits, you may be able to report it through Form 12 instead. (revenue.ie)
The standard Pay & File deadline is 31 October each year.
For the 2025 Income Tax Return, the 2026 deadline is 31 October 2026. However, taxpayers who both file and pay through ROS can use the extended deadline of 18 November 2026. (revenue.ie)
Late filing can result in a surcharge and may also lead to interest on late tax payments.
For this reason, it is better to prepare your return early rather than wait until the deadline.
This depends on your circumstances. Your return may include employment income, self-employed income, rental income, dividends, foreign income, investment income and other taxable income.
