RICHARD OSHEA CONSULTANCY
Claim the R&D Tax Credit
Developing new products, software, processes or technology can involve significant costs. However, some of this expenditure may qualify for Ireland’s R&D Tax Credit.
The credit is available to companies carrying out qualifying R&D activities in Ireland, the EEA or the UK, provided the relevant conditions are met.
We review your projects and costs, assess whether they meet the R&D criteria and help prepare a claim supported by the required records.

Frequently asked questions
Clear answers to common questions from business owners considering this service.
The R&D Tax Credit is a tax incentive for companies carrying out qualifying Research and Development activities.
It provides a credit based on qualifying R&D expenditure, subject to the relevant Revenue rules.
A company may qualify if it is within the charge to Irish Corporation Tax and carries out qualifying R&D activities in Ireland, the EEA or the UK, provided the expenditure does not qualify for a tax deduction in another country.
The activities must involve systematic, investigative or experimental work in science or technology.
They must also seek scientific or technological advancement and involve the resolution of scientific or technological uncertainty.
Depending on the circumstances, qualifying expenditure can include relevant employee costs, materials and other costs directly connected with qualifying R&D activities.
We can review your expenditure and help identify the costs that may qualify.
For accounting periods commencing on or after 1 January 2024, the current rate is 30% of qualifying expenditure.
The rate is due to increase to 35% for accounting periods with a specified return date on or after 23 September 2027.
If your company is making an R&D claim for the first time, or has not made a claim during the previous three years, a pre-filing notification is generally required.
The notification must be submitted at least 90 days before the claim.
Yes. You should keep records that demonstrate the nature of your R&D activities and support the qualifying expenditure included in the claim.
For this reason, good documentation should form part of your R&D process rather than something prepared only when the claim is due.
